Hi Everyone,

I'm the admin of a skinning website ; winmodify.net , and I spend a lot of effort/time/money on my website, and it's all free for our visitors. Recently we did a big relaunch which gave visitors much more options. We now have about 550 members but hardly anyone is posting comments on skins and news... it's driving me crazy, what can I do to get more people commenting on things, I want to expand my website much more but I need people's opinions on things, unfortunally there aren't any (barely), I know it's hard to get peope active and commenting, but after all the things I already did there should be a steady group commenting...

What should I do to get more comments going on my website... I'm open to comments.. thanks!

Target people who know how to type.

It isn't like Field of Dreams where...If you build it they will come.
What do you have to offer that noone else does? It better be pretty good because it's not like people will really frequent multiple skinning sites. Wincustomize rules. Skinartistry is a close second.

Looks pretty cool. Think I'll do some browsing.

Hum, I think NT is exaggerating.  But for sites like Skinartistry and skinning.net and now yours, its hard to come up with the answer.  NT and I have kind of shared some thoughts but nothing seems to helping, so if you figure out the answers, let us know.

I was only exaggerating a little.

I'm doiing the best I can, but as nighttrain says, a site has to have something that no-one else has, to me, our skinners interviews are pretty special, I got great reactions on that idea. too bad Shawn stole that idea

I guess getting comments on a website is one of the hardest things, pretty strange actually because it is so easy to do...

...just introduce some Dennis Rodman type trolls to criticize. Post numbers will go up. Unfortunately.

lol... I just wish it would be a little bit easier to receive more comments, everytime i think of the lack of comments it feels like im doiing something wrong...

hmm DA #1, WC #2, and SA #3 IMHO
back to the topic, u need alot more than 550 members to get a decent amount of comments, use WC and DA as an example and look at their Member/Comments ratio

Winmodify...I just checked out your site.

First thing...it doesn't look like your doing anything wrong. I like the way you have it laid out. Not really much content to look see at the moment though. I was able to surf the site in a short time. I see alot of nice stuff there, except everything I saw that I would download I've already downloaded from here. I have your site saved now, so from time to time I will check back to check out any new additions.

One thing...in your Xp Tweak section...it might be a good idea to explain a little more about what is being downloaded. Text? Executable file? When I see a tweak section I usually see text with an explanation about the tweak...not something to download. So unless I know more about what I'm downloading I won't download anything.

Other than those things...people are finicky...if they "really" like something "maybe" they will comment...no guarantee though. I uploaded 144 things to the ObjectDock library and received about 128 comments even though I had over 100,000 downloads. And of the comments received...most of them were from members of WC, people I've had some sort of interaction with. Very few were from people passing through. But the way I gauge if people like what I've done is by downloads...not comments. But even then...people are finicky...so you never know.

Personally...I prefer WC because of the vast content and layout of the site. DA has some nice stuff, but I don't care for the layout. Your site has some nice stuff, and I like the layout, but you need more content. Give it some time to grow, but that still won't guarantee comments. JMO

Dear WebGizmos, thanks for 'reviewing' my website

The files in the XP-Tweaks section are .txt files. When someone submits a tweak, they can write text to explain how you can tweak a configuration and that is beiing saved to a .txt file. So you don't have to be affraid for spam or anything like that.

I agree the website hasn't all that much content, but you cannot compare my website with this one (WC). I'd rather have a little less skins but higher quality files, than thousands of skins but most of them ***-quality if you know what I mean. It indeed will take time to grow, but to let it grow we need more people active in way of commenting on skins and news, submitting content isn't going to be much of a problem I think/hope.

My website probably will never be as big as WC, that's just not possible, I'm running the whole website on my own, including the payments of it all. A little while back I heard WC costs 300.000 dollars each year ... that's not even near the price I pay each year. and they got a whole team of people working on the website.

I know it takes time to get more skins / be more populair / get more comments etc.. but how long does the avarage skin site takes to be a steady one, with lots of vititors/attention/comments..?

b.t.w. how much members does WC has..?
on Jan 03, 2006
WC has over 2.3 million members.
